The Student Coalition Against Racial Profiling was formed as a reaction to severe police brutality against black and brown youth in the Bushwick, Brooklyn community.

In response to the arrest of over 40 students en route to the wake of a recently deceased friend, Make the Road by Walking’s Student Coalition Against Racial Profiling will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday June 5, 2007.

Last Monday in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, about three dozen grieving young people on their way to a wake for a teenage friend who had been murdered were surrounded by the police, cursed at, handcuffed and ordered into paddy wagons. They were taken to the 83rd precinct stationhouse, where several were thrown into jail.
